I used the 3" hexagon template from Lady Harvatine with some scraps and kona stone. this mini-quilt is about 18x15. machine piecing hexagons isn't terribly hard but it's fairly tedious. against my better judgment, i FMQ little hills. i debated ripping it out because i really hate the way it looks but i got lazy. i do like the quilting pattern, just not with this particular quilt. if i were to do it all over again i'd probably handquilt to outline the hexagons. but that's what Experiment #2 is for.

the backing is a lecien fabric and the binding is connecting threads. one of these days i will actually get around to hanging up all the miniquilts i've made.
if you are a regular reader of my blog, it probably won't be a surprise to learn that i am not a big fan of traditional fall colors. pairing brights with toned down neutrals and browns is about as Autumn as i get. Still this actually is fairly Fall-tinged for me (I used stone and brown instead of grey! plus...orange!) so I'm contributing this to Celebrate Color.

Cute! Your first hexagons look lovely. I had trouble hand sewing my first batch together. I had no trouble basting them, but my stitches were very visible when I tried attaching them to each other. I'm going to try a super fine needle next time in hopes of making tinier stitches. I love this entry for Celebrate Color. I'm near finishing a couple of entries, but the first deadline will be here super quick!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing what new quilts you are coming up with. This one is great. I'll bet a wall full of these miniature quilts would be so cozy in a home.
